I walked to Ross Castle.
So my GPS said this was a 35 minute walk, but my GPS is a liar. I told it to shut it’s dirty mouth after 45 minutes. The walk was about 50 minutes, probably 35 for someone in actual shape. It was a beautiful walk, I would do it again.
Ross Castle is situated at the banks Lough Leane the largest of the Killarney lakes. The castle itself is impressive and has an extensive history that is free to read in the visitor center, with a cool little mock up of the castle itself. The tour was a reasonable €5 and lasts 40 minutes. I took the tour and learned so much about the way of life living in a castle, which were built for defense more than anything. You’d think hell yeah! a castle but it would have been dark and smelly more than anything. Photography was not permitted on the tour, I’ve included one photo of the great room that I stole from Google, the rest are mine.
Ate fish and chips when I got back to town at a little place called Quinlans. The fish portions are crazy here, big as a boot, and because I was starving again I got squid as well. It’s a good place for all sorts of fish and seafood, super yummy. I was in an immediate food coma. I napped for about three hours, I’m clearly not as young as I’d like to think.
It’s my last night in Killarney, and it’s my favorite place I’ve visited so far, I have to come back and rent a car next time, walking has limited me quite a bit.
Walked around town a tad, did a little genealogy stuff, got my coat of arms, found a cool little candy shop, listen to buskers sing about Trump, that was humiliating, and bought wine to drink to work on the blog. Ya know I don’t even know if I’m doing the whole blog thing decently, I’m not a writer and this is my very first trip. Ever. Hopefully I’ll get some more travel under my belt and get better at this. I can tell you one thing, this trip has changed me, I think for the better. Honestly, no anxiety. It’s gone. Socially I’m a moron still, so I got that going for me.
Going to head out for a Guinness, and some traditional Irish music down the block. Tomorrow Kilkenny.
Today’s walk, and a few from town.
